Kymera International® R&D created a high strength aluminum alloy powder called AL-TM a number of years ago. The powder was produced in our Velden, Germany facility. It soon became obvious that conventional processing of this alloy, like pressing and sintering, was not the best way to consolidate the powder and other advanced forming techniques needed to be studied.
Extrusion was one such method. It turns out, advanced extrusion techniques have proven to be even more superior in mechanical property development when compared to conventional hot extrusion.
This publication was written in conjunction with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, USA and explores the microstructural evolution of Al-TM when processed using their unique extrusion technology known as SHaPE®.
