To all Kymera International Employees,
It is difficult to believe that we are closing in on the 1-year anniversary of the global pandemic that has infected close to 60 million people and claimed the lives of more than 1.3 million. This is of course not one of those anniversaries we will celebrate, but rather look back at with tremendous sadness.
Many countries did a great job in controlling the virus in the June-September timeframe, but then people started getting “COVID-19 fatigue”, meaning they were simply tired of adhering to the precautions necessary to avoid spreading this deadly disease. Kids started going back to school, restaurants and bars opened, and people started socializing more with friends and family. Unfortunately, the virus did not slow down and in recent weeks has caused a spike in cases and deaths in many countries.
It is absolutely clear that wearing a mask, staying at least 6-feet apart and following proper hygiene is the best way to avoid getting sick. You wear a seatbelt when you drive, a safety harness when you at large heights and follow strict lock-out / tag-out procedures when working with electricity……wearing a mask is just another safety measure that should be second nature during this deadly pandemic. Remember this affects more than you!
Kymera’s employees have done an excellent job following our policies and guidelines and I was extremely proud that up until this past week we had only 7 confirmed cases since the outbreak began. However, we are not immune to “COVID-19 fatigue” and we have seemingly let our guard down and now have another confirmed case, with potentially more depending on the close proximity interactions that may have occurred. This is not about Kymera and our ability to continue producing material for our customers. This is about life and death. This concerns you, your fellow employees, your family and friends and all those who you may get infected.
I will take this opportunity to remind you of some of the key elements from Kymera’s Corporate Policy – Coronavirus/COVID-19. • Wear a cloth mask when in shared spaces and common areas, including offices, hallways, cubicles, breakrooms and conference rooms • Make sure your mask covers your nose and mouth and ensure that it fits snugly against the side of your face and is secured with ties or ear loops • Stay a minimum of 6 feet/1.5 meters from others at all times • Clean your hands often by washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with 60%-95% alcohol • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze • Avoid contact with anyone who is sick • Avoid touching your face (eyes, nose and mouth) • Do not share food, drinks or any personal items • Subject to local policies and guidelines daily screening of employees (temperature measure and questionnaire) will be required. • Face-to-face meetings for business purposes are prohibited unless essential and everyone involved in the meeting is comfortable meeting face-to-face. When meetings occur no more than four people can attend. • If you have symptoms consistent with COVID-19 or have been confirmed to have COVID-19, you must leave the site and seek proper medical care. You must inform your supervisor and local HR representative and discuss with them before returning to work.
We all know that a vaccine is coming and that other treatments will follow but this is not the case today. It is unlikely that a vaccine will be available to the mass public until mid-2021 and as the weather gets cooler in most of our operating countries the pandemic is going to surge even faster.
I urge you to be safe at work and at home and avoid mass gatherings, particularly if they are indoors. Don’t let “COVID Fatigue” ruin your life or those around you.
Be safe and stay healthy.
